Anatomy of a Veld Fire: Part 1

In this posting, in one of the photographs with a large tree in it, on the right hand side of the tree in the top branch is a black bird. It has a partner that you might see in another photograph if you look closely. The fire gets closer and closer, and yet the bird stays in the tree until the heat just gets too much. I think they must have had a nest there.
I reported the fire to Lanseria Fire services, but no one came to do anything. This fire devoured everything in its way, and afterwards, the kiewiets went back to what was left of their nests on the ground, as did the black and white crows to finish anything left behind of either eggs or chicks. There's nothing romantic about fire.

Small Stop Rustenburg Way

Behind the cattle, if you look closely, you can see a little boy watching me as I took photographs. You'll have to click on the photo to have it open in a new window. I wonder what he must have been thinking at that moment. Irrespective of how 'normal' our situation may look to bystanders, friends or family, sometimes our own perception is a killer.

Koi

I discovered it isn't that easy to photograph these beautiful fish in the late afternoon, but I'll go back for another visit when the sun is higher. Not that clear but I'll work on getting better photographs next time.

Sunflower and Friends

Hi. Haven't been here for a while. Things not really happening as I would like. Think I should push a little harder with my mind. I find these flowers and their visitors uplifting, and I took these while bunking work for a half hour or so. There's a LOT more to this life than the 9-5 grind that we do so we can earn money to pay the bills. What a trap. Hope you have a good day :]

Quiet Place

I went and visited a graveyard this afternoon. I know some must find that offensive, but it gives one a wake-up call when you start to lose focus of the things that are actually important. Sometimes in the rush of our lives where one day becomes a week in no time at all, seeing the gravestones and the lives they represent is important. Then one must make that change and spend the time and love those closest to you while one can. We all know how quickly it can change. Start today. Have a good week ahead.

Hi. Another Sunday. Hope you're doing okay there. Wanted to see what art there was under the bridge near the yacht club, and discovered these made by young Greenside artists?

Secret Place

These are for you M.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to you know who....you are :}

My Friend

My friend is a little guy
dark eyes and soft smile.
Everyone likes him,
you can see.

My friend has a big house,
at the end
of that faraway street.

The sounds of the trains next door,
are good news for him;
for they hide his friends' screaming,

once they go in.

Feline, friend and detail

Lady Anglo

Hi there. How has your Friday/start to your weekend been? I hope you have someone there to hold and be with if you're wanting some TLC. Funny how when it's gone, whatever it is, you may realise how much it/she/he really meant to you. But by then it may be too late. Quite painfully empty inside after the fact, and then you get the idiots who have it all, but don't really give a shit. To add insult to injury, they still get to keep it. As Johnny Depp so aptly states in Once Upon a Time in Mexico, "Are you a MexiCAN or a MexiCAN'T?" I think the following is more applicable to those pratts, namely the endearment 'Fuckmook' introduced by JD. Wherever you are, have a great weekend and be safe.

My Baby Girl

When I think of You
I go quiet inside.
Everything slows down for me,
because You are so beautiful,
and so fragile.
Little sighs as You fall asleep
holding on to me against my chest.
Baby breath
and a baby heart,
all You need is love.

While You sleep
on either side,
are Angels watching over You now.
They cover You with their wings at night,
keeping You safe while You smile and dream.

I think of You, beautiful girl,
and send You my love to stay,
Always.

Nightscapes

Johannesburg from the roof with D80 on aperture-priority, Manfrotto 055Pro and 501 head and remote cable. 23 degrees celsius. No hand-holding or kisses. Oh well. Sorry about the compression.
